His parents lived at De Forest, Wisconsin, for a few years before they came to Rock Township to settle when Albert was a small boy.

He attended the rural schools of the neighborhood and the Cedar Valley Seminary.

He was united in marriage with Pauline Erickson, in 1877, and they were parents of five children: ernest, Raymond, Jessie, now Mrs. Charles Graham, Gail and Gladys, Mrs. Emmit Steelman. The latter passed away 10 years ago.

Surviving are the four children named; also a brother, E.J. Torney, of Osage, and five grandchildren.

Mr. Torney farmed a good many years in Rock township, later buying a farm south of Osage. A few years ago he purchased a home in Osage where he had since resided. His two granddaughters, Mable and Gladys Torney, made their home with him while attending high school.

Mr. Torney united with the Rock Creek Baptist church. He took a very active part in the building of the church and was always interested in any of its activities. He was a good neighbor, a kind father, and he will be greatly missed by all.
