SUDDEN PASSING OF SELMA A HOUG
WAS MUSIC TEACHER, CHURCH ORGANIST
DURING PAST SIXTEEN YEARS

Miss Selma A. Houg, only daughter of Mrs. Helene Houg, and sister of M. A. Houg, died just before midnight last Friday. Miss Houg had been in failing health since last fall when she suffered with sinus trouble, and had been at Rochester for examination several times. Her death came as a shock, however, as her last illness was of only three days' duration.

Miss Houg was a music teacher in St. Ansgar for many years and for sixteen years served in the capacity for organist at the First Lutheran Church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. T.P. Solem of Osage, in the absence of Rev. Langehough.

OBITUARY

Selma Amanda Houg was born August 8, 1889, at St. Ansgar, Iowa, the daughter of Halsten S. Houg and Helene Groth Houg. She was baptized by the Rev. J. Olsen on September 22, 1889. She was confirmed by the Rev. J.A. Urnes at Osage on June 26, 1904.

At the age of nine years she moved with her parents to Osage where she attended the public school, graduating from the high school with the class of 1909. The following year, after the death of her father, she moved back to St. Ansgar, where she has since made her home. In 1912-13 she sudied music at the Northwestern Conservatory of Music, under Miss Helga Olsen, at Minneapois. Upon returning to St. Ansgar, she taught piano until two years ago when she had to cease on account of her health.

Selma was always interested in her church, taking part in Sunday School and Bible Class, and had acted as the church organist since 1915.

In the last two years her health had begun to fail her, but it was not until the last day that her illness took a serious turn. She suffered much from severe headaches, although she never complained and bore the burdens herself, trying to the last to do her work. She died Friday night, June 5, 1931, at her home in St. Ansgar.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her mother, a brother and his wife. Her father, two sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
