The family requests that memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church, 218 N. 7th Street, Osage, IA, 50461.

A six year resident of Elma, Iowa, Mabel was born April 13, 1926, at Osage, Iowa, to Raymond P. and Christol (Mortensen) Torney. She was the eldest of seven children (Gladys, Earl, Gene, Shirley, Donald, and Arnold) and was greatly affected by the early deaths of Gene and Shirley. Mabel graduated from Osage High School in 1943 and attended Iowa State Teacher's College, achieving her teaching certificate. She taught elementary school in the Burr Oak township where she taught her future step-son, Lynn Krahenbuhl, prior to her marriage to Roscoe F. Krahenbuhl on New Year's Day 1947.

Lynn and his brothers, Larry, Russell and Fred were later joined by Allan, Martin, Charles, Crystal (Burke), Roscoe James and Cindy (Vimpany).

The family farmed west of Osage, Iowa and subsequently near Hancock and Wilton, Wisconsin, until 1971 when Mabel, Roscoe and the three youngest children returned to the Osage area. Mabel worked for the Daylight Store and assisted Roscoe with the DX Service Station in Plymouth, Iowa.

Mabel subsequently lived and worked in Minnesota, Arkansas, and the Hampton, Iowa, area as a nursing assistant and cook in nursing homes. Mabel was active in Osage's First Baptist Church and the Alumni Association of the Future Teachers and enjoyed spending time with long time friends she made at all the places she had worked and lived. Hobbies included researching her family's history and crocheting afghans for grandchildren and baby caps that she donated to local hospitals. She was an avid reader and passed this love on to many of her children. She excelled at crossword puzzles.

She often returned to the Osage area through the years and again upon her husband Roscoe's death in 1996, just three months prior to their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mabel is survived by three of her four step-sons and her six children, their respective spouses, over 30 grandchildren and over 30 great-grandchildren, as well as her three brothers and one sister and their families.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, parents-in-law, one brother, one sister, two sister-in-laws, one step-son, a nephew, and three grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, (641) 732-3706.
