ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Funeral services were here Monday for Mrs. Elizabeth Hamlin, 73, who died at the Cedar Valley Hospital, Charles City, Friday. She was stricken with a sudden heart attack last Thursday evening.

Born May 16, 1880, on a farm in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, and was from a family
of 11 children; parents were August and Bertha Schultz.

Several years ago she and her sister. Bertha, operated a dressmaking establishment here.

She was married to Henry Hamlin and they lived their entire life in Des Moines, where her
husband died about 11 years ago. She returned to St. Ansgar in 1944 and this had been her home since.

She leaves four sisters and one brother. The body was taken to Des Moines for burial beside her husband.

Last Rites Monday
for Mrs. E. Hamlin

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Hamlin, 73, of St. Ansgar, who died at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Friday, February 5, (1954) after a brief illness, were held Monday, February 8, at 10 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church with the Reverend O. A. Langehough officiating.

Elizabeth Schultz, daughter of the late August and Bertha Schultz, was born May 16, 1880, in Newburg Township, Rock Creek. She was baptized by Pastor Zeilinger at St. John’s Lutheran Church and was confirmed by Pastor Westenberger at the same church.

She was united in marriage to Henry Hamlin October 14, 1914, in Des Moines and they made their home there until she moved to St. Ansgar following the death of her husband December 13, 1942.

Mrs. Hamlin became suddenly ill Thursday evening and Friday afternoon was taken by ambulance to the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. Shortly after her arrival at the hospital her condition became critical and she died Friday evening at the age of 73 years, eight months and 19 days. Since returning to St. Ansgar, Mrs. Hamlin has been a faithful member of the First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one brother, Henry, of St. Ansgar, and four sisters, Emma, Bertha and Annie Schultz, all of St. Ansgar and Mrs. Augusta Buchanan of Des Moines. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The interment service was held at the Rest Haven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
