Walter Beyer Killed in North Dakota; Funeral Here
Funeral services for Walter A. Beyer, 20, were held at Immanuel’s Lutheran Church on Sunday afternoon. In the absence of Reverend Brammer the services were conducted by Reverend Brauer of Osage. Many relatives and friends were in attendance and six cousins of the deceased acted at pallbearers. Interment was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Funeral services were also held at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, on Saturday afternoon and the funeral party arrived here Sunday noon.
Walter August Beyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Beyer of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, was born August 28, 1917, and died June 16, 1938, aged 20 years, 9 months and 18 days. He was killed in an auto accident one mile east of Tower City, North Dakota. He had been employed on the farm of his brother, near Buffalo, North Dakota. The exact time the accident occurred is not known. Walter was walking along the side of the road Thursday night when he was struck by a hit-an-run driver and his death was instantaneous. A hitch-hiker discovered the body Friday morning and was the first to report the accident.
Besides his parents Walter is survived by four brothers and two sisters. He was a young man of integrity and ambition and his untimely demise is deeply mourned by many friends.
Among the many relatives of the deceased in St. Ansgar and vicinity are his aunts and uncles; Mrs. Albert Beyer, Mrs. Anna Beyer, Emil Nack, Mr. and Mrs. William Steinberg, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bartz, and Mrs. Martha Kansenbach and William Nack of Grafton.
