Funeral services for Godfred W. Carlson were held on Saturday afternoon, January 2 at the home at 1:30 o'clock and at 2:00 o'clock at the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar. Burial was in First Lutheran cemetery. The Rev. Olaf A. Langehough was in charge of the obsequies.
Godfred William Carlson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Carlson, was born on a farm south of Mona on August 1, 1892.
At an early age he was baptized by Rev. Eggen and confirmed by Rev. Esser in the Lutheran church. Later he transferred his membership to the First Lutheran church at St. Ansgar and remained a faithful member of that church.
On October 30, 1919, he was united in marriage to Annie Mehus. They established their home on a farm north of St. Ansgar where they have since resided.
In November of 1942 he submitted to an operation at Rochester, Minnesota, from which he never fully recovered. He passed away on December 30 at the St. Olaf Hospital at Austin, Minnesota, where he had been a patient for the past fifteen months. He reached the age of 55 years, 4 months and 29 days.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Emma, and one brother, Charlie.
Besides his wife he is survived by one sister, Minnie (Mrs. Nels Anderson), and four brothers, Gilbert, Edwin and Raymond of Lyle and Rudolph of Austin.
"There's an open gate at the end of the road. Through which each must go alone. And there in a light we cannot see. Our Father claims His own. Beyond the gate our loved one finds happiness and rest and there is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best."
Among those from a way in attendance at the funeral services Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Havig, Mr. and Mrs. Ingwald Halvorson, Harold Christianson, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Johnson and Stella Wahl of Osage, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fossey, Charley Fossey, Arthur Ashley and Mrs. Oscar Haney of Austin, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Severson, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mehus, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reyerson of Northwood, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Harlis Anderson of St. Paul, Minn.; and Lewis Solo on Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs.Galen Carlson and Carol of Mason City.
