Leonard R. Fox, age 85, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died on Thursday, April 5, 2001, after a brief stay at the Riceville Community Rest Home.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 11, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Rev. Edward Schmidt officiated and burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion, St. Ansgar. The Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge of the arrangements.

Leonard was born on October 31, 1915 in Miltonville, Kansas, to Raymond and Pearl (Ivey) Fox. He moved to the St. Ansgar area with his family as a small child. As a young man he worked for various area farmers. After joining the U.S. Army in 1942, he participated in training maneuvers in various U.S. locations.

On April 29, 1943, he married Evelyn Rosenberg. Leonard was then sent to serve in World War II with the 90th Division. He participated in a number of campaigns including the Normandy Invasion. He received a number of decorations and citations, including the Bronze Star for meritorious duty. After being honorably discharged from the service in 1945, he and his wife settled in the St. Ansgar area where he began a 35-year career with Cedar Valley Electric and retired in 1980.

He enjoyed the company of former co-workers, friends and family until his death. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Harold Fox; and one sister, Blanche Griga.

Those that survive him include his wife, Evelyn of St. Ansgar; three daughters, Sandra and husband, Dale Lubbert of Riceville, Judy Fox of Mason City and Kathryn and husband, Marlin Bexley of Sorrento, Florida; one son, Dean and wife, Robyn of St. Charles, Minnesota; one brother, Edgar and wife, Evelyn Fox of St. Ansgar; one sister, Luella Slaichert of St. Ansgar; seven grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
