John A. Cooper an old resident of this village died at 2:30 o'clock Thursday morning, March 16th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nitsche of 3519 5th Avenue,Chicago, aged 68 years and 6 months.

Mr. Cooper was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cooper and was born in Dovenshire, England, coming from there to Oakfield in 1852, remaining here until 1861, when he went to Bloomington, Illinois. In 1867, he returned to Oakfield and in 1868, married Miss Mary Way of this village, then returned again to Bloomington.

In 1869, they went to Shirly and began house keeping, living there until 1886 when they moved to Little Cedar, Iowa, where they have since resided with the exception of a year spent in Oakfield.

Mr. Cooper was greatly attached to Oakfield and having a great desire to spend his remaining days here; had disposed of his property and in company with his wife and son John, started on their way. They stopped in Chicago to vist their nephew and niece, Herbert Way and Miss Retta Way, also Mr. and Mrs. Nitsche, old friends. Seemingly no one enjoyed the vist more than the deceased until about a week previous to his death.

He was stricken with pneumonia and all that loving hands, a trained nurse and medical skill could do was done, but to no avail and he passed peacefully away. The immediate cause of death was asthma of the heart.

Brief services were held Saturday afternoon by Rev. Jerome Roe and in the evening the remains accompained by the wife and four children started for Oakfield arriving here Sunday morning and were taken to the home of his brother, James Cooper. The funeral was held from the Methodist church at 2:30 Monday afternoon, the Rev. G. E. Price officiating.

Mr. Cooper was a loving father, a kind neighbor and was respected by all who knew him.

Besides his wife he leaves four sons, William and John of Little Cedar, Iowa, George of Colorado, and Louis of Hoover, Indiana; four daughters, Mrs. Hattie Corey of Colorado; Mrs. Anna Hill, and Misses Mary and Grace of Little Cedar; a sister, Mrs Harris of Colfax, Illinois, and a brother James Coooper of this place.
