MASON CITY, IOWA - Loy O. Pike, age 75, of Mason City, and formerly of Mitchell county, Iowa, died peacefully on a beautiful Sunday morning, September 21, 2008, at Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2008, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with Robert Orr officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Loy was born April 13, 1933, in Osage, Mitchell county, Iowa, (minutes after his twin brother Roy). His parents were Harold R. and Pearl (Naber) Pike. He graduated from Osage High School then went to work for Armour for 32 years. He also owned and ran Pike's Maid Rite with his wife and kids before retiring in 1985.

Loy married Clara (Pat) Prohaski and together they raised their four children.

Loy enjoyed taking his family on long summer vacations in their camper, giving his children the opportunity to visit almost every state in the United States. Sitting around the campfire with the Prohaski families making s'mores and singing songs late into the night at Yellow River Forest was an important weekend activity. He enjoyed the holidays when all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered for a day of family togetherness. Loy also enjoyed fishing trips up north with his son and friends.

When Parkinson's disease was finally able to slow him down he began playing cards and putting puzzles together with his many friends at Good Shepherd. It was not unusual for Loy to "sneak off" on his scooter for a cruise around town, enjoying his freedom!

Loy was a positive man, despite what Parkinson's had done to his body, and he never missed a chance to joke around with the nurses and staff at Good Shepherd.

Loy is survived by his children, Lois Awe and husband, Allen, of Mason City, Deb Walkner of Mason City, James Pike and wife, Cindy, of Plymouth, Diana Padilla and husband, Hermeregildo, of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Brandi, Clair, A. Noble, Joshua (Rebecca), Gabriel, Denver (Angie), Drew and Darcie (Eusebio); 11 great-grandchildren, Jarrod, Lucas, Alea, Miracle, Brian, Orion, Angel, Adan, Alena, Trevor and Jacob; three brothers, Dean Pike and wife, Anna, of Houston, Texas, his twin brother, Roy Pike and wife, Shirley, of Marion, and Paul Pike and wife, Emily, of Ocala, Fla.; three sisters, Sharon Uhlenhopp and husband, Lynn, of Cedar Falls, Patsy Crowe and husband, John, of Vancouver, Canada, and Shannon Miller and husband, Tom, of Ocala, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother, Darrell Pike.

Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 641-423-0924; www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com
