Charlotte Ruechel, nee Brandt, was born October 25, 1841, at Sonneborn, Lippe Detmold, Germany. At this place she was also baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Having lost her mother in early childhood, she was soon thrown on her own resources and worked as a domestic in her home community till she emigrated to America in 1867.
For four years she lived at Leeds, Wisconsin. Here she was married to Mr. Edward Ruechel in 1871 and accompanied him to their home on a farm in Union Township. In 1894, they moved to Newburg Township in Mitchell County, Iowa and finally in 1904 the couple retired from the farm and came to live in St. Ansgar, IA.
Mrs. Ruechel had six children, five of whom preceded their mother in death. More or less an invalid for many years, the deceased succumbed to the infirmities of old age and pneumonia on Tuesday December 23, 1931 at 10:30 p.m. She attained the ripe old age of 89 years, 1 month 28 days.
She is survived by her invalid husband, one son, six grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services were held on Friday, December 26th at 1:30 at Immanuel's Lutheran church and burial was in the church cemetery.
