HOLD RITES FOR CRASH VICTIMS - MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED PERSONS ATTEND FUNERAL FOR TWO BROTHERS

St. Ansgar paused in its activities Friday afternoon to pay tribute to two brothers whose lives were snuffed out in the airplane crash which replaced the joy and gaiety of a Fourth of July celebration with grief and horror last Wednesday. While one of the largest crowds ever to attend a home funeral here listened to the last rites for Edward and Vaney Libersky another funeral was being held at Ackley, Iowa and at Grafton, Iowa, flowers were not yet wilted on two new graves.

"And, as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement." Upon this statement, from Hebrews 9:27, H.F. Risse, superintendent of schools, based his sermon in which he stressed the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time of death. "The only pilot we are sure of is God, and He will guide us safely to the other shore," Rev. Risse said.

"Have Thine Own Way, Lord" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" were sung by William A. Groth and a duet, "Face to Face", was sung by Mr & Mrs Groth.

Edward Libersky was born January 25, 1897 on a farm northeast of St. Ansgar, Iowa. Here he spent his childhood and early in the century the family moved to Scio, Oregon, where Vaney was born January 1, 1904. A few years later the family returned here and lived on the Fossey farm six miles north of here.

Despite the loss of one hand in a hunting accident in his youth, Ed was a skilled craftsman and employed his leisure in making many beautiful articles, including a violin which experts declare to be exceptional. In recent years he has been employed by the county as a road maintainer.

Vaney worked on his father's farm until the family moved to town and then he assisted his brothers on their farms and worked at various jobs. He assisted H.B. Hansen at the elevator for two years.

A crowd estimated at more than 500 was present at the rites which were held on the lawn of the A.L. Libersky home. All business places were closed during the funeral. Interment was made in the St. Ansgar city cemetery.

Surviving are their parents, Mr. & Mrs. A.L. Libersky; four brothers: Joe of Lyle; Charles and Frank of north of here and John at home; two sisters: Mrs. Louis Volney of St. Ansgar and Mrs. Carl Nelson of northeast of here.

Rites for Fred Symington, pilot, took place at the home of his mother, Mrs. Anna Symington, in Ackley Friday afternoon.
