MARCKS, ERDMANN, DIETERICHS

August Ferdinand Marcks, the seventh child of Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Marcks, was born November 25, 1884, on the farm in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, where he lived all his life. In his infancy he was baptized in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church and was also confirmed there later on.

November 3, 1909, he was joined in marriage with Agnes Erdmann. Four stillborn children were born to them. May 1, 1926, his first wife was called from his side by a sudden death.

He again found a companion in Mrs. Lydia Dieterichs, with whom he was happily married since October 12, 1927. This union was blessed with one daughter who, at the time of her father's death, was 15 months old.

Mr. Marcks enjoyed good health practically all of his life until during last summer when he experienced some stomach trouble. He did not consider it serious until October when it caused him considerable inconvenience. Now he sought medical aid and finding no relief, he submitted to several clinical exams during November and December by which his sickness was shown to be internal cancer. He sought relief where he thought he could find it, without submitting to surgical operation. Saturday, February 8, he came home with good hopes and was able to be up and around until last Saturday when he became too weak from internal hemmorhages. Having strengthened his faith by word of God and sacrament, he yielded to death willingly and calmly, on Wednesday February 26, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

The time of his pilgrimage amounted to 45 years, 3 months and 1 day.

He is survived by his widow, one daughter, one step-son, one step-daughter, his aged mother of 78 years, four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held last Saturday at Immanuel's Lutheran Church and cemetery, the Rev. Brammer officiating.
