Memorial services for Charles Wentworth Carter, 88, of Osage, were held Monday, March 27, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage, with Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Subramanian officiating.
Inurnment was in the Osage Cemetery. Charles Wentworth Carter departed this life on Friday March 24, 2006 at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Went was born April 21, 1917 in Hampton, the son of Walter A. and Lura (Wentworth) Carter. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1936 and then attended trade school where he studied electronics.
On August 3, 1943 he married Merle Williams at the First United Methodist Church in Osage. To this union two sons were born, William Wentworth and Bradford Charles.
Went owned and operated "Carter's Radio and TV" in Osage for about 40 years. He was active in the Osage Rotary Club and the Osage Development Corporation. His hobbies and interests were many, and included woodworking, piloting a small aircraft, pottery, singing in church choir, target shooting, and spelunking.
He enjoyed a good debate on almost any topic, and was ready to take on anyone who was willing. Went was a member of the Osage Masonic Lodge and the First United Methodist Church where he served on the church board.
He was preceded in death by: His parents, brother Richard and wife Lydia, his sister Elizabeth Johnson and her husband Laverne.
Went is survived by: his wife, Merle of Osage; two sons, Bill and his wife Joy Carter of Wilton, Iowa and Brad and his wife Gail Carter of Waterloo; grandchildren, Carolyn and Alex Carter; step-grandchildren, Eric and Beth Brodahl and many friends.
