Died: November 17, 2018

Wilbur Lawrence Tesch, 86 of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Saturday, November 17 in Osage, Iowa. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 24 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 – 6:00 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Wilbur Lawrence Tesch, the son of Lawrence and Ella (Erdmann) Tesch was born on August 17, 1932 at the family farm east of Grafton, Iowa. He began his education in the one room schoolhouse across the road from his home and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1950.

Wilbur served in the army from 1955 to 1957 spending time in Korea. He married Carlene Church on November 9, 1957. They were blessed with three children: Debra, Julie and Craig.

He spent his life doing what he loved, farming his family’s farm and holding positions in various organizations. Over the years he was active in 4-H, County Extension Service, ASCS Committee, Elevator Board, Mitchell County Farm Bureau serving as President and other offices. He was a lifelong active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church serving on church council and as treasurer for many years, as well as Faith Lutheran Home board.

Wilbur loved playing cards and cribbage and putting puzzles together. He enjoyed morning coffee with friends and catching up with his many cousins, nieces, nephews, classmates, friends and neighbors. You could often find him riding his bike and picking up cans or trapping gophers throughout the county.

Wilbur’s joy was his grandchildren. He loved farming with them and building bird houses, robots, go- carts and just about anything in his shop. He made it to as many of their events as he could and was a lifelong St. Ansgar Saints fan. Wilbur was a devoted and loving husband, dad, grandpa and would have soon been a wonderful great-grandpa, also brother, uncle and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish Wilbur’s memory are his wife of 61 years Carlene of St Ansgar; children Deb (Chris) Nelsen of West Des Moines, Julie (Guy) Tenold of Perry and Craig (Lorie) Tesch of Osage; his eight grandchildren Austin and Brandi Nelsen, Chad, Cole and Erica Tenold, Samuel and Trey Tesch, Taryn (Garrett) Cole; his sisters Doris Fisher and Arlys (Harlan) Hannam and many nieces and nephews.
