Michael Allen Flack, aka “Mike the Drummer”, age 64, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Osage, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.

Cremation has taken place.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Officiant Deblyn Russell presiding. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. before the services at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Osage Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to your favorite charity.

Mike was born on June 11, 1954, the son of Benjamin Patrick “Pat” Flack, Jr. and Eileen Gertrude (Donovan) Flack in Osage, where he also grew up and graduated from high school in 1972. On August 29th, Mike died of an apparent heart attack after spending two days with his family and friends. Although he lived in many places, most recently in Waterloo, his heart never left Osage.

He was a drummer in the Osage Precisionnaires Drum and Bugle Corps. This was the beginning of his love of drumming. That passion stayed with him all his life. He had many jobs but always told people he was drummer. He played all over the country in multiple bands. His love of drumming extended to the art of drumming. He was the inventor of “Flack Wackers” and “Dos y Cuatros”. It has been said of Mike, that music was the defining principle of his life.

Mike is survived by his brothers, Gary (Eloise) Flack of St. Augustine, Florida and Elon (Jane) Flack of Metter, Georgia. He has many nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and friends, who will miss Mike in their lives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frederick Flack; and sister, Cathleen Flack Johanns.
