Died: September 15, 2018

Howard Wieland, age 96, of Osage, died Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the Faith Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Howard was born November 11, 1921, at Schley, Iowa, in Howard County, the son of Fred and Fannie (Havens) Wieland. He attended Burr Oak No. 1 rural school. He married Mavis Vera Reckner on April 19, 1944, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Howard farmed in Floyd and Mitchell counties, with Mavis at his side. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.

Howard enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Arizona and Oklahoma, fishing, gardening, and dancing. Howard suffered his greatest loss ever with the passing of his wife Mavis, on September 23, 2010. Howard was grateful to his family, friends and neighbors for helping him during troubled times.

Howard is survived by one sister, Doris Sonberg of Waverly; many nieces and nephews; and neighbors and friends.

He was preceded death by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Albert and Fred, Jr.; two sisters, Mary Rosensweig and Lola Kramer; and one nephew, Darren Sonberg.
