Miss Lane Dead-
Word was received the first of the week of the death of Miss Kate Lane, which occurred at 9:45 last Friday forenoon at Santiago, Cal. About two years ago Miss Lane’s health began to fail and she went to Arizona in the hope of recovery. Failing to find it there she continued to the coast.
For many months previous to her death she had been a patient sufferer. The news of her death came as a shock although not as a surprise. The remains will be shipped to Riceville, arriving here it is calculated Friday or Saturday.
Funeral services will be held and interment made in Riverside cemetery beside the body of the deceased’s father.
Miss Lane was a sister of Mrs. Jas. Irvin of Afton. She is survived also by another sister, Nettie, who since the dread disease which terminated her life fastened itself upon her has been her constant companion. Also by two brothers, George and John, and by an aged mother who makes her home at Jas. Irvin’s.
For years Miss Lane was a resident of Cresco. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved relatives. — Riceville Recorder.

KATE ISABELL LANE,
Was born in Jamestown township, Ia., on Sept. 10, 1877. While she was still a young child, her people removed to Cresco. On account of her poor health she was accompanied to Arizona some ten years ago and a little later to California.
About a year ago signs of consumption began to manifest themselves after a peculiarly aggrivated {sic} trouble with a tooth. The disease gradually undermined her constitution and death came to her release at Santiago, California, on Friday, Aug. 15, 1902, in the 25th year of her age.
The deceased was of a specially cheerful disposition, and yet of a decidedly religious nature. Her devotions were not a task, but a delight. She loved her Saviour and enjoyed His service. She was ever thoughtful of loved ones, and had been specially tender of her mother. She united with the Congregational church of Cresco and honored her profession.
The deceased has had the constant care and loving attention of her sister, Nettie Lane, who was with her to the very last, and who accompanied her remains to the Riceville home and cemetery.
The burial took place at Riceville on Saturday, and Rev. N. L. Packard preached the funeral sermon on Sunday morning, Aug. 24.
