ST. ANSGAR – Mary Lou Amundson, 86, of St. Ansgar, died on May 26, 2018. Funeral service will be on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 1:00 PM at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa, with Rev. Christopher Staley officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar and one hour prior to service at the church.

#2:Mary Lou died May 26, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society nursing home in St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar from 4-6 pm. Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 31, at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow the service at the St. Ansgar City Cemetery, with a luncheon immediately after, at the First Lutheran Church parish center.
Mary Lou was born in Osage, Iowa, on June 18, 1931, to Lawrence Rockafellow and Mary Lou (Springer) Rockafellow. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School and a year or so later she met Leonard Amundson at a roller skating rink. While Leonard was away in the Korean War Mary Lou worked in Chicago for an airline. They exchanged many letters and shortly after Leonard returned from the war, Mary Lou and Leonard were married, on February 22, 1953, in Chicago, IL.
Mary Lou was a devoted mother and wife. She and Leonard raised four children, Michael, Lewis, James, and Donna. Mary Lou helped on the family farm, worked as a cook at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Nursing home, and enjoyed being the librarian at the Nissen Public Library in St. Ansgar. She was an avid reader and gardener, among other interests.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard’s parents, LeRoy and Agnes Amundson, brothers Dale Rockafellow and Dean Rockafellow, and sister-in-laws Hazel (Amundson) Russel and Rose Rockafellow.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard, and her children, Michael (Cynthia) Amundson of Eagan, MN, Lewis (Jaime Fuller) Amundson, of Silver Spring, MD, James (Dennise) Amundson of Mogodore, OH, and Donna (Mark) Mueller of Chagrin Falls, OH. Grandchildren are Rob and Alex Amundson, Joshua Amundson, Samantha (Amundson) Holden, Emerald Amundson and Patrick Mueller, and great-grandson Everett Holden. Mary Lou is also survived by her brother: Delos Rockafellow of West Branch, IA, sisters-in-law Joan Rockafellow of St. Ansgar, IA. Marilyn Rockafellow of Springfield, MO, brother-in law Howard Amundson of Kensett, IA and Chet and Wilma Amundson of Clear Lake, IA.
