Miriam A. Kirst, age 95, of New Haven, entered into eternal life peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven, Iowa, with Father Mark Murphy officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in New Haven. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 5:15 p.m. There will also be visitation at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Miriam was born on the Carroll farm near New Haven to Henry and Gertrude (Helfter) Carroll on April 29, 1923. She attended and graduated from St. Mary’s School in New Haven in 1940. She attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids studying music. On April 4, 1945, she married Joseph Kirst at St. Peter’s Church in New Haven. They farmed and raised their family in the New Haven area retiring in 1977.
She was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and served as organist and song leader for many years. She treasured her family of ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and loved to hear about their latest adventure
Miriam is survived by her children, Ann (Randy) Hauschildt of Marion, Mary Rose of Mason City, John (Cindy) Kirst of Osage, Barbara (Patrick) Johanns of North Liberty; ten grandchildren, Amy (Jeff) Dolan, Jason (Nita), and Stacy Hauschildt, David and Danny Rose, Neysa Sturgeon, Jessica (Rob) Tate, Lakota Kirst, Rebecca and David Johanns; and four great-grandchildren, Allyson and Matthew Dolan, Asha Hauschildt and Grayson Marlowe.
He was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joseph in 1998; her siblings, Catherine Klink and infant Francis, and eight sister and brothers-in-law.
