Duane De Vries

Duane "Dewey" De Vries, age 73, of Osage, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 6, 2018, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Duane was born May 10, 1944, in Aplington, Iowa, the son of Harm and Angeline (Smidt) De Vries. He graduated from Aplington Parkersburg High School in 1962. Duane married Carol Rykena on July 11, 1964, and to this union three children were born. They later divorced. On October 2, 1982, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Beyer at the First United Methodist Church in Osage.

Duane drove truck for many years and was a proud member of the Four Million Mile Club. He loved NASCAR, collecting watches, visiting friends, and cowboy boots. Family was important to Duane, especially his grandkids. His kind heart, sense of humor and easy-going personality will be forever missed.

Duane is survived by three children, Troy (Wendy) De Vries of Ankeny, Tamera (Rod) Greiner of Reinbeck, and Todd (Lori) De Vries of Newton; step-children, Lisa Cheney of Mason City and John (Ann) Beyer of St. Ansgar; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Mae Smiens, Freda Harms and Carol (Wendell) Luchtenburg; brother, Harold (Carolyn) De Vries; several close friends; and his dog, Lulu.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn on July 14, 2017; and brothers-in-law, Eppogen Smiens and Orlynn Harms.
