Biography--

Bethel O. Durby, 92, of Cedar Falls, died, Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Windhaven Assisted Living, Western Home.

She was born December 15, 1924, at Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Gersham and Nettie Mae (Millard) Lashbrook. Bethel married Olaf Martin Staff and they were later divorced. She married Marlo Durby and he preceded her in death in 2005. Before her retirement she was owner and manager of a motel in Osage. Bethel loved music and loved singing in church and community choirs, and doing solos. She also enjoyed art work, ceramics, doing sculptures, painting, crocheting, and sewing.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Dick) Smith of Cedar Falls and Mary Lehman, of Waterloo and one son Martin (Karen) Staff, of Glen Ellyn, Ill; one step son, Tony (Leontine) Durby, of St. Eustatius Island, Netherland Antilles; two step daughters, Cindy (Craig) Haugsdal, of Northwood, Iowa and Tricia (Jerry) Dahl, of Albert Lee, MN.; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Bethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Kenneth and Dean Lashbrook.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2017 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19 at the Dahl-Van Hove–Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
