April 10, 1946 - October 17, 2017

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Cindy L. Alder, 71, of St. Ansgar passed away peacefully, October 17, 2017 at Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Ansgar United Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Dr. Rhoda Preston officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, with a reception at City Limits following the services.

Cindy was born in Osage, Iowa on April 10, 1946, to Melbourne ‘Shorty' and Delene (Peterson) Sheldon. She attended St. Ansgar Community Schools and spent her early years growing up around or in St. Ansgar. During these years she developed her love of animals and baking as she learned from her mother and grandmother.

On July 15, 1968 she was united in marriage to Ron Alder. They would make their home in St. Ansgar and spend the next 46 years together. Cindy was a lively character and spent her life mainly as a homemaker but also worked at the Osage Faith Home early in her adult life and as the boys grew up. She did crafting and would set up at craft shows in the area. She also wrapped a lot of meat at the St. Ansgar Locker.

Cindy enjoyed playing cards, cooking and baking, playing games of all sorts. She cherished the time when her boys were competing in Jr. High and High School athletics. She and the family relished the opportunity to cook for her football boys' for several years and was a fixture at all of her son's events and provided lunches, hugs, and fruit to her many boys. She was known as ‘Ma' to many.

She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and helped with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for a short time. But used her talents to cook and sew for many Lions Club Dinners and funerals, as well as assisting in the making of the Annual Conference Banner that hangs in the front of the sanctuary. She loved and adored her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all for her smile, wit and huge heart.

Cindy is survived by sons Jeff (Karla) of St. Ansgar, and Jake (Stephanie) of St. Paul, MN; brother Kim Sheldon of St. Ansgar; grandchildren Courtney: Emily, Levi, Lacy, Claire, Nikki; great-grandchildren Hunter and Clara; and by many extended family and friends.
