June 18, 1944 - August 21, 2017

Mason City, IOWA - Hazel Marie Fitch, 73 of Mason City passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City, Iowa surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, Iowa with Pastor Kent A. Mechler of Good Shepherd officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. Following the service the family will be traveling to Hauser Cemetery, Conrad, Iowa for burial, arrival about 5:00 p.m..

Memorials may be directed in care of Hazel's family.

Hazel Marie Bakkum was born June 18, 1944, in Osage to Bennie and Lillian (Nickolson) Bakkum. She went to grade school in Osage and then Mitchell High School. On November 26, 1960, in a double marriage with their best friends, Bob and Sarah Putney, Hazel married Edwin Fitch in Osage, Iowa. To this union a daughter was born, Louise. Together the couple enjoyed motorcycle rides on their 1967 Harley Davidson. They spent time camping and would take road trips with Bob and Sarah to many states, including: Washington, South Dakota, Utah and California. As a family, Hazel, Edwin and Louise would go fishing with Ed's parents. Ed passed away July 6, 2006. Hazel loved her animals and looked forward to visits from her granddog, Ghost.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Louise Tatum of Mason City; two brothers, Alvin (Mardelle) Bakkum of Crystal Lake, and David (Marilyn) Bakkum of Mason City; six nieces; five nephews; a grand-nephew; a grandniece; one great-grand-niece; a sister-in-law, Twyla Fitch; a dear friend, Bob Putney of Charles City; as well as extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother-in-law Fred Fitch, as well as her father and mother-in-law, Fred and Doris Fitch.
