Ole Haraldsen Uhlen was born April 14, 1813 at Uhla, Aadal, Buskerud, Norway to Harald Olsen Uhlen and Ingeborg Olsdatter. Ole was baptized June 13, 1813 at the Norderhov Church, Buskerud, Norway and confirmed on September 16, 1849 at Viker in Aadal, Buskerud, Norway.
Ole married Gjertrude Christiansdatter Bakke (b February 2, 1792 Aadal, Buskerud, Norway, d February 18, 1885 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa) on March 16, 1834 at Viker in Aadal, Buskerud, Norway. Marriage record found at Norwegian Digital Archives on-line for Viker in Adal 1832-1840, page 33, 1st entry for 1834. Says Ole Haraldsen Uhlen from Lindelien is 21 years old and Gjertrude Christiansdatter Bakkieie is 41 years old.
Believe they had 2 children: a stillborn baby on April 3, 1834 at Norway and a daughter, Ingeborg Olsdatter (b March 15, 1836 Buskerud, Norway, d July 21, 1901 Mitchell Co, Iowa).
Ole and Gjertrude left Norway in the early summer of 1850 to emigrate to Wisconsin. Found on the ship's list arriving at New York City from Drammen, Norway July 16, 1850 with Ole's father, Harald. Traveled on ship "Christiane" and settled in Wisconsin.
Ole's father, Harald died that fall (September, 1850) at Wisconsin. Ole's mother had died in 1848 and was buried in Buskerud, Norway). Ole and Gjertrude next moved west in 1853 to settle on farmland north of Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, part of the group of Norwegians led by Rev Claus Clausen.

Ole Haraldsen (Uhlen) died April 25, 1883** at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. He is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

Note: A record found while doing research states that Ole Haraldsen enlisted on July 12, 1861 with Company K, 15th Wisconsin Regiment (the Scandinavian regiment) at age 49 and served 1 year in the Civil War for the Union side. It says he participated in 3 battles in Missouri. Rank: Private. Mustered out due to a fever on August 3, 1862.
** Note: Other sources say he died on April 24th, not April 25th.
