Knute (Knudt) Olesen Sponheim was born December 1851 at Ulvik, Hordaland, Norway to Ole Olesen Sponheim and Synneva Knudsdatter Oppedal, the oldest of their five children.

Knute left Bergen Norway to emigrate to America. He traveled on the ship "Harald Haarfager" and arrived at New York City on May 26, 1874. He then settled at Mitchell County, Iowa. All of his siblings and his mother also emigrated to Mitchell County, Iowa.

That same year, 1880, Knute was married to Julia Isaacsdatter Osa at Mitchell Co, Iowa.

The couple had 6 children who were all born at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
Synnova Knutsdatter (b 1881, d May 24, 1886);

Sigurd S (b January 1, 1882, d March 1969 South Dakota);

Oscar Bernardt (b May 29, 1887, d unknown);

Clara (b August 25, 1891, d before 1893);

Clara Susannah (b January 18, 1894, d April 22, 1895) and

Clarence Fritchoff (b May 24, 1897, d September 13, 1967 Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa).

Found in the 1880 & 1885 censuses living on a farm at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1880: Knud Sponheim 29, Julia Sponheim 25, Henry Sponheim 22, Ole Sponheim 15. (Henry & Ole are Knud's brothers)

1885: Knud Sponheim 34, Garo Sponheim 30, Sunva Sponheim 4, Sagurd Sponheim 3.

Found in the 1900 census at Mitchell, Mitchell, Iowa: Knudt Sponheim 48, Julia Sponheim 44, Sigant Sponheim 18, Oscar B Sponheim 13, Frehard C Sponheim 3.

Found in the 1910 census at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa: Knute Sponheim 59, Guro Sponhiem 58[53], Oscar Sponhiem 22, Clarence Sponhiem 12.

Knute O Sponheim died October 16, 1911 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. He was buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

There is a memorial for him at Find A Grave; No. 155306936.
