Julia Frances Cherney, 64, a daughter of John and Mary Korney Cherny, was born on May 22, 1879, at Osage, Iowa. She was the eldest in a family of three children. She died at Hannibal Missouri, September 7, 1943.
She grew to young womanhood in Osage, attending the public schools. She then entered the State University of Iowa school of nursing from which she was graduated. She then entered the nursing profession and soon went to Hannibal, Missouri, becoming connected with the Levering hospital. She was nurses' supervisor for five years, and was then appointed superintendent, in which capacity she served for twenty-five years. She became ill early this year and passed away last Tuesday, at about 3:00 a.m.
In her youth she united with the M.E. church and had continued her membership through the years.
She is survived by two brothers, Charles R., of Shenandoah, and John L. of Independence.
Funeral services were held in Hannibal, Missouri. The body was then brought to Osage for burial in the family lot in the Osage cemetery. Committal services were conducted by the Rev. Stiles Lessly.
