MRS. WILLIAM VOAKLANDER

Mrs. William Voaklander, nee Marie English, was born April 2, 1851, at Windsor, New York. She was the eldest of four children born to Samuel and Mary English.

With her parents she moved to Kilborn, Wisconsin, at the age of 3 years. When she was 12 years old the family moved to Mitchell county.

She attended Cedar Valley Seminary and taught school for four years, beginning teaching at the age of 16 years.

In 1871 she was married to William Voaklander. They resided on their farm in Burr Oak township, later retiring to live in Osage until 1908 when they moved to San Gabriel, California. In 1916 Mr. Voaklander died.

Three sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Voaklander -- Frank, William and Louie. Deceased also reared an adopted daughter, Grace Halstad. Preceding her in death are her sons, Frank and Louise, also Grace and two grandchildren.

Surviving is William, of Burr Oak; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She suffered a stroke in May, 1942, and had been bed-ridden for over 13 months. She died July 5 at Sand Gabriel, California, at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 3 days.

She was laid to rest in the San Gabriel cemetery beside her husband.
