Stephen A. Northup, age 68, of Osage, died Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Paul Brown officiating. There will be a flag presentation by Osage American Legion Post 278 and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home. The family will also greet friends and relatives for an hour prior to and immediately following the service at the funeral home on Monday. Inurnment will be at the Osage Cemetery at a later date.
Steve was born August 21, 1946, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Clemens “Sonny” and Velma (Bennett) Northup. He graduated from Osage Community High School in 1964. Steve served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1968. On June 25, 1976, he married Vera L. Woods at the Shell Rock United Methodist Church in Shell Rock, Iowa. Steve worked for L.R. Falk, White Farm, and for the City of Osage for 31 years, serving as Street Superintendent for the last eight years of his employment with the city.
In his retirement, he drove truck for Midwest Pipe Supply, Inc. in Clear Lake. Steve enjoyed sitting by campfires, as well as fishing and camping. He also enjoyed road trips, which included many trips to the Mississippi River and a fall trip to Gays Mill. Family was very important to Steve. The adoption of Tracy and Tammy in December of 1976 was a very proud moment for Steve, as was the birth of Kristin in June of 1982.
Steve is survived by his wife, Vera Northup of Osage; his children, Tracy (Denise) Northup of Decorah, Tammy Northup of Waterloo, and Kristin (Mike) Gartke of Waterman, Illinois; and three grandchildren, Abby, Ryan and Eden of Decorah.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma in 1999; and his father, Clemens in 1987.

Graveside inurnment services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at the Osage Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278. Pastor Paul Brown will officiate.
