CARPENTER, IOWA - Dennis Finch, 68, Carpenter, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at his home in Carpenter.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood.

CARPENTER, IOWA - Dennis Ray Finch, 68, Carpenter, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at his home in Carpenter.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, 4598 Zinnia Ave., Carpenter, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.

Inurnment will be held in Newberg Cemetery, Carpenter, with military honors conducted by members of the St. Ansgar American Legion and Osage Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. North, Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.

Dennis Ray Finch was born on March 3, 1947, in Osage, the son of Russell and Margaret (Hollatz) Finch. Dennis was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter. Dennis attended Carpenter Community School, and graduated from St. Ansgar High School. He was inducted into the Navy on July 22, 1966, and served his country honorably and faithfully in Vietnam on the USS Cleveland and was honorably discharged on July 8, 1970, in Bainbridge, Maryland.

After his service to his country, Dennis began working for Northwood Co-op Elevator in Carpenter and continued working until his retirement in 2007 as its branch manager. After his retirement, Dennis mowed for the city of Carpenter.

Dennis loved being with his granddaughter, Jacey, fishing with his family and friends in the Boundary Waters, being outdoors, camping, working on cars and trucks with his brother-in-law, Roger Luther, bird watching, gardening, crossword puzzles, and watching western movies.

He was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter, former member of the Carpenter City Council, Osage Veterans of Foreign Wars, St. Ansgar American Legion, and former volunteer fireman in Carpenter.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janice Finch of Carpenter; his son, Aric Finch of Carpenter; granddaughter, Jacey Finch; his mother, Margaret Finch of Mason City; two sisters, Nancy (Terry) Keough of Rudd, and Rita (Roger) Luther of Rock Falls; several nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis (Janelle) Johnson of Northwood, and Bret Johnson and special friend Tina Johnson of Northwood; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Russell Finch; two nephews, Travis Keough and Jimmy Byrne; and his mother and father-in-law, Delores and Omer Johnson.
