DEATH NOTICE--
ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Harland "Pete" Hackbarth, 101, of St. Ansgar died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating.
Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to service at the church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Pete was born June 1, 1913, in St. Ansgar, son of John and Martha (Bartz) Hackbarth. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1932.
His marriage to Ruth Williams took place in Kirksville, Missouri, in 1940. They lived in Los Angeles, California, where he was employed at Lockheed Aircraft. They moved back to St. Ansgar in 1946.
Pete was employed by H. L. McKinley, Oliver Corp., St. Ansgar Elevator and retired from the St. Ansgar school system after 22 years of employment.
Until ill health at age 100, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, cribbage and hunting. He shot his last deer with a bow and arrow at the age of 84. Pete and Ruth were known for remembering shut-ins and friends with cards, visits and gifts of 'goodies.'
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; brothers Roy and Orie; sister Laura Nelson.
Pete is survived by daughters, Janelle Francis and Camille Jeffers (Richard); grandchildren, Jennifer Kisley (John), Jeffrey Francis (Shawna), Michelle McDermott (Andy) and Brian Jeffers (Barbara); great-grandchildren, Andrea, Morgan, Steven, Jayden, Adrian; great-great-granddaughter, Payton; and step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews.
