Bertha Alice Skuster, age 96, of Osage, died Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015, at the United Church of Christ in Osage with Pastor Charles Owens officiating. There will be a time for lunch and fellowship following the memorial service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to the United Church of Christ in Osage.
Bertha was born April 14, 1918, at Mitchell, Iowa, the daughter of Laurence and Myra (Shipton) Hungerford. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1936. On July 31, 1937, she married George Skuster. Bertha was a homemaker and served for many years on the Mitchell County Conservation Board. She was an accomplished musician and a member and longtime organist at the United Church of Christ. Bertha enjoyed sewing, crafts, and gardening.
Bertha is survived by her children, Liz (Jim) Dickson of Oakland, California, and Marc (Jane) Skuster of Los Alamitos, California; three grandchildren, Jeff Dickson, J.D. Dickson, and Sarah Skuster; and sister, Barbara (James) Ristau of Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Skuster in 2000; her daughter, Lynne Neuhaus in 2002; brother, Laurence Hungerford; and sisters, Dorothy Pleasants and Ruth Anne Geary.
