Tilman Johannes Norby was born June 27, 1895 at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa to Olaus Halsteinsen Norby and Sigrid Syversdatter Foshold, the youngest of their three children.

He was baptized on August 11, 1895 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. His baptismal sponsors were: Mr & Mrs Iver H Norby, Lauritz Norby and Marit Fosholdt.

Tilman married Gea Mabel Fjeld on June 5, 1919 at her parent's home near Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had 4 sons: Robert Maurice, Raymond Charles, Harold James and John Paul (all deceased as of 2014).

Found in the 1900 - 1940 censuses living on a farm at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa:
1900: Olaus I Norby 39, Sarah Norby 37, Sigurd H Norby 12, Martha M Norby 9, Tillman J Norby 4.

1910: Olaus Halstenson Norby 49, Sarah (Sigrid) Syversdatter Fosholdt Norby 47, Herloff Sigurd Norby 21, Myatte Norby 19, Tilliman Norby 14.

1920: Tillman J Norby 24, Gea Norby 23. 1925: Tillman Norby 29, Gea Norby 28, Robert Norby 3.

1930: Tillman J Norbye 34, Gea M Norbye 34, Robert M Norbye 9, Harold J Norbye 5, John P Norbye 1 mo.

1940: Tillman Norby 44, Geo Norby 44, Robert Norby 19, Harold Norby 15, John Norby 10, Raymond Norby 2.

Tilman J Norby died January 20, 1977 at Rochester, Olmsted, Minnesota and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #52064036.
