Tilman Johannes Norby was born June 27, 1895 at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa to Olaus Halsteinsen Norby and Sigrid Syversdatter Foshold, the youngest of their three children.

He was baptized on August 11, 1895 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. His baptismal sponsors were: Mr & Mrs Iver H Norby, Lauritz Norby and Marit Fosholdt.

Tilman married Gea Mabel Fjeld on June 5, 1919 at her parent's home near Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had 4 sons: Robert Maurice, Raymond Charles, Harold James and John Paul (all deceased as of 2014).

Tilman J Norby died January 20, 1977 at Rochester, Olmsted, Minnesota and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
