Hans Christian Nelson was born January 2, 1865, at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Nels Engebret Qvisle Nelson and Berthe Maria Hansdatter, the younger of their two sons.

Hans was baptized January 29, 1865, at church services in Cedar Township, Mitchell County before the Rock Creek Lutheran Church was finished being built. He was confirmed at RCLC on April 20, 1879.

Found in the 1870 - 1885 censuses living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:

1870: Nels Nelson 35, Betsey Nelson 30, Edley Nelson 8, Haurss Nelson 6.

1880: Nels Nelson 53, Betsy Nelson 53, Eleward Nelson 17, Hans Nelson 15.

1885: Nels Nelson 59, Bertha Nelson 59, Edward Nelson 21, Hans Nelson 19.

Hans married Gurine Pedersen on February 8, 1890 at the First Lutheran Church, St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa. The couple had four children: Nathan, Millard, Hattie Grace and Clarence E.

Found in the 1900 - 1920 censuses living at Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo, Iowa:

1900: Hans C Nelson 35, Gurena Nelson 38, Nathan J Nelson 8, Millard Nelson 4, Hattie Grace Nelson 2, Clarence E Nelson 2 mos.

1910: H C Nelson 45, Julia Nelson 47, Nathan Nelson 18, Mallard Nelson 14, Grace Nelson 12, Clarence Nelson 10.

1920: Hans Nelson 54, Durena Nelson 56. Hans was working as a real estate agent.

Hans C Nelson died May 22, 1925 at Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #49815673 and there is a picture of Hans and his wife in the 1911 Mitchell County, Iowa Atlas, Section 3, page 30.
