Ingebret (Engebret) Nelson Qvisle was born August 9, 1799 at Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway. He married Ingeborg Nielsdatter (b 1798, d 1863) on October 7, 1824 at Overbye, Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway.
The couple had 4 children who were all born at Qvisle (Kvisle) Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway:
Nels Engebretsen (b July 3, 1826, married Berthe Maria Hansdatter 1861 Mitchell Co, Iowa, d October 15, 1921 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa);
Kjerstie (b May 23, 1830, married Ole Torgersen Fagrebakken 1852 Wisconsin, married Guul Hansen 1877 Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, d October 3, 1903 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa);
Kjersti (b April 17, 1834, married Ole Johnsen Maakestad September 30, 1861 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, d July 3, 1925 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa) and
Jorand (Jane) b September 5, 1840, married Johan Nikolai Johnson August 5, 1863 Mitchell, Iowa, d October 13, 1907 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
The family of six left Norway and sailed over the Atlantic Ocean on the boat "Sjofna", landing at Quebec, Canada and traveling on to settle at Dodgeville, Iowa, Wisconsin. The children attended school in Wisconsin where they learned to speak English. In 1859, Ingebret, his wife and children moved to Mitchell Co, Iowa where their married oldest daughter, Kjersti, was already living.
Found in the 1860 - 1880 censuses at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1860: living with a Skinner family: Entrat Nelson age 60.
1870: Ole Johnson 45, Christy Johnson 34, Martha Johnson 7, Isabel Johnson 4, Lever Johnson 2, Peter Leverson 21, Ingbert Nelson 70 (widowed).
1880: Ole O. Johnson 53, Christie Johnson 46, Martha Johnson 17, Isabel Johnson 14, Siever Johnson 12, Oliena Johnson 8, Anna Johnson 5, Tom Johnson 19, John Levan 27, Ingebret Nelson 80.
Ingebret Nelson Qvisle died July 23, 1884 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #51588663. The couple is also mentioned in the 1911 Mitchell County Atlas, Section 2, page 19.
