Obituary of the Late Mr. Albert J. Lovejoy

One of Few Remaining Veterans of Civil War Passed Away at the Age of 81

Albert J. Lovejoy, eldest son of William and Martha Whitcomb Lovejoy, was born in Warren, Vermont, Dec. 29, 1844. He received his education in the public schools of that vicinity. At the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in Co. 1, 9th Vermont regiment, serving his country faithfully and well until the close of the war.

In 1869, he married Harriet A. Root, daughter of Roswell and Lucinda Root, of Bennington, Michigan. One year later they moved to Braidwood, Illinois, where they remained until the spring of 1882, when they came to Mitchell county, purchasing a farm in Rock township, where they lived until 1893, when they came to Osage.

Eight children were born to them. Mary Pearl and George Roswell died while very young of scarlet fever. The other children all grew to manhood and womanhood and are now so scattered that no two live in the same state. They are Robert, Mitchell, Iowa; Mrs. Orie Ethel Stone, Bothell, Washington; Roy Saxon, Rison, Arkansas; Mrs. Laura Faith Bee, San Francisco; Ralph Gray, Hayward, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Edna Grace Boughton, Montpellier, North Dakota.

Mr Lovejoy has always been esteemed a good neighbor, a true friend, and a respected citizen. He died January 3, 1926, after a brief illness, at the age of 81 years and 5 days.
