Johan (John) Bernhard "Bert" Johnson was born June 10, 1896 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa to Johannes Bernhard Johnson and Oline Marie Halvorsdatter Brenden, the second of their three children. He had an older brother, Oswald Harold (1895-1963) and a younger sister, Gladys Verna (1898-1982).
Johan was baptized on June 28, 1896 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and confirmed at same on June 5, 1910.
Found in the 1900 census living at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa: John B Johnson 27, Lena Johnson 27, Oswald Johnson 6, Bert Johnson 3, Gladys Johnson 1, Carrie Anderson 32, Edna Borshem 23.
Found in the 1910 - 1915 censuses living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1910: Johannes Bernhard Johnson 37, Oline Marie Halvorsdatter Brenden Johnson 37, C*Ld Johnson 15, Johann Bernard Johnson 18[12], Gladys Johnson 11.
1915: Bert Johnson age 19.
Johann married Verna Mabel Dykeman (1898-1972) between 1915 - 1920 at Mitchell County, Iowa.
The couple had 3 sons: Gerald, Dennis and Robert.
Found in the 1920 & 1925 censuses living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1920: Bert Johnson 23, Verna M Johnson 21.
1925: Bert J Johnson 28, Verna M Johnson 26, Gerald O Johnson 3, Dennis L Johnson 1, Danin Schumaker 47.
Found in the 1930 census living at Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa: John B Johnson 34, Verna M Johnson 32, Gerald O Johnson 8, Dennis L Johnson 6, Robert J Johnson 1 yr 9 mos. (working as a laborer)
Found in the 1940 census at Cedar Falls, Black Hawk, Iowa: John B Johnson 43, Verna Johnson 41, Gerald Johnson 18, Dennis Johnson 16, Robert Johnson 11.
Returned to Osage, Mitchell, Iowa to live later in life.
John "Bert" Johnson died November 18, 1982 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
