Johan (John) Bernhard "Bert" Johnson was born June 10, 1896 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa to Johannes Bernhard Johnson and Oline Marie Halvorsdatter Brenden, the second of their three children. He had an older brother, Oswald Harold (1895-1963) and a younger sister, Gladys Verna (1898-1982).

Johan was baptized on June 28, 1896 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and confirmed at same on June 5, 1910.

1910: Johannes Bernhard Johnson 37, Oline Marie Halvorsdatter Brenden Johnson 37, C*Ld Johnson 15, Johann Bernard Johnson 18[12], Gladys Johnson 11.

1915: Bert Johnson age 19.

Johann married Verna Mabel Dykeman (1898-1972) between 1915 - 1920 at Mitchell County, Iowa.

The couple had 3 sons: Gerald, Dennis and Robert.

John "Bert" Johnson died November 18, 1982 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
