NEWS STORY--

Authorities in Wyoming say a north Iowa man has died after an avalanche.

The Teton County Sheriff’s office says the accident happened Tuesday afternoon just east of the Togwotee Mountain Lodge. Authorities believe 27-year-old Tyler Tourtellott of Osage was snowmobiling with a friends from the Osage area when Tourtellott became stuck on a hillside.

Police say a friend came up to help Tourtellott, who was off his snowmobile, but then a snow slide happened. Law enforcement say the snow pushed Tourtellott into a tree down below; eventually burying him and his snowmobile at the base of the tree. The other friend was able to ride away to safety.

After searching, authorities found Tourtellott and immediately provided CPR. Officials continued this for 30 minutes until they pronounced Tourtellott dead.
