GEORGE WALTER--

During his infancy he was baptized into the Lutheran faith. At the age of five he came with his family to Iowa, locating in West Mitchell, where he spent the remainder of his life. During his youth he completed his education in the Mitchell school and worked on various farms.

On Aptil 26, 1901, at Osage, he was united in marriage with Charlotte Klinger and to this union one daughter, Virginia was born.

As a young man he worked as a millwright in and around Iowa. Later he became associated with his father-in-law in the West Mitchell flour mill. Upon completion of his mill duties he worked as a carpenter until ill health forced him to discontinue his work.

Although the deceased was always interested in national affairs, he took great interest in the community life of Mitchell, and held the office of mayor for many years, and was mayor at the time of his death. He served on the school board for a number of years.

Being interested in music, he was instrumental in organizing several local bands, and also played and sang in various musical organizations.

He was taken ill on November 10, 1942, and was in the Nissen hospital in Osage for three weeks, after which he was taken to the home of his niece, Mrs. William Robertson, in Osage, and then to the home of Mrs. Effie Ingersoll in West Mitchell, where he remained until death, Saturday evening.

He leaves to mourn his loss one daughter, Virginia, of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Cheney of West Mitchell; three brothers: John of Millbrae, California, Lew of Soux Falls, South Dakota, and Edwin of Burlington, Wisconsin; also a number of nieces and nephews.
