Samuel L. McIlwain – November 1851 – October 14, 1928
D. S. McIlwain returned from Chinook, Montana, Monday evening, where he attended the funeral of his father S. L. McIlwain, who was taken to Osage, Iowa for burial.
He was accompanied home by his mother, Mrs. L. McIlwain, and brother, R. J., who visited until Wednesday evening at the McIlwain home. D. S. McIlwain accompanied the on their return Wednesday evening to help his mother a few days.

Samuel L McIlwain was born November 1851 in Sun Prairie, Dane County, Wisconsin, the son of James McIlwain and Jane (Sims) McIlwain. (1860 US Census) His parents are buried in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
He married Letitia Roberts.
