Dies Following Cycle-Car Accident
Funeral Services for Dale Brunner,
17 Set for Thursday in RCS Auditorium
Funeral services for Dale Edward Brunner, 17 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph A. Brunner of Riceville, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, July 22 in the Riceville Community High School auditorium. Officiating at the services will be Reverend Bertrand Hinrichs, Pastor of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Riceville.
Young Brunner passed away Monday, July 19, 1976 in St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, from injuries received in a car-motorcycle accident on Saturday evening, July 17 at approximately 8:15 p.m.
The Howard County Sheriff's office listed the location of the accident as approximately 5 miles north of Riceville.
Driver of the 1976 Ford involved in the accident was Don Pretasky, 17, of Riceville. According to the sheriff report, a large amount of dust was located in the area from passing cars, and that apparently, young Brunner, on his cycle, was following a car at a safe distance, but due to the dust, Pretasky did not see the cyclist until he struck the vehicle with his front bumper. There has been some question of which county the death would be charged to. A call early Wednesday morning to the Mitchell County Sheriff found the death listed as the 4th fatality in Mitchell Co.
Young Brunner was taken to a Osage Hospital, but transferred to the Rochester, Minnesota hospital. Cause of death was listed as head injuries.
Dale Edward Brunner was born July 1, 1959 and would have been a senior this year in the Riceville Community Schools. He was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Riceville, Future Farmers of America and the Walther League.
He is survived by his parent, a sister, Susan, and two brothers, Allan and Larry, all at home.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville with the Lindstrom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
