Dies December 22Mrs. Bertha Brunner, wife of Mr. Adolph Brunner, Sr., passed away at her home in the north part of Riceville, on December 22, 1949, after a lingering illness of many years.
She was born July 24, 1879 at Iseltwald, Switzerland, the daughter of the late Jacob Bernath and his wife Margrita, nee Fentz.
She was baptized in the name of the Triune God on August 4, 1878 and confirmed in the same place in 1894.
On September 15, 1905 she was married to Adolph Brunner at Interlacken, Switzerland. To this union were born four children, two of which died in infancy.
In the year 1922 they immigrated to America and settled near Riceville, where they lived since that time.
She is being survived by her husband, Mr. Adolph Brunner, Sr., one son, Adolf Jr. of Riceville, and one daughter, Emma, Mrs. Herman Moser, living in Switzerland, and five grandchildren. The only other near relative in this country is a nephew, Gottfried Abblegen of Monroe, Wisconsin, whom she had raised from infancy. Two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the Loper Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Walter Schroeder. Two duets, "Nearer, My God to Thee" and "Abide with Me" were sung by Mrs. Ansgar Christensen and Mrs. Charles Lubbert, accompanied by Miss Lois Schroeder on the piano.
Interment was made in Riverside Cemetery, awaiting the Dawn of Resurrection.
