Osage, Iowa — Robert “Bob” Smith, age 87, of Osage, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Faith Home in Osage.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278 and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Bob was born October 7, 1925, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Leo and Minnie (Herzog) Smith. He attended and graduated from Charles City High School. Bob joined the U.S. Navy in October of 1943 and served in the South Pacific as a medic on the U.S.S. Hornet. He was honorably discharged in April of 1946.
Bob married Austie Pelleymounter on December 28, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They made their home in Osage where he worked as a salesman until he retired in 2005. Bob was a member of the Osage American Legion and Osage V.F.W. His passion was cars.
Bob is survived by three daughters, Barb (Russ) Krahenbuhl of Osage, Nanci (David) Broome of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Pat (Tony) Halbach of Osage; two sons, Larry (Yvonne) Smith of Madison, Wisconsin, and Tom Smith and Colette of Osage; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jan Pull of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sharon (Alan) Davidson of Charles City; and special friend, Bernice Taglin of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Austie Smith, in 2003; twin sister, Roberta Pelleymounter; and sisters Betty Marth and Bernadette Doore-Matteson.
