Graveside services for an Osage native, Grace Kathan Schumate, 77, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, were held on Wednesday, November 5, 1986 at the Osage Cemetery. Rev. K. Hejnal of the United Church of Christ officiated. Mrs. Schumate died on Sunday, November 2, 1986 at an Albuquerque nursing home.
Mrs. Schumate was born on March 13, 1909 in Osage, Iowa, to Charles and Emma (Gregory) Kathan. She was a graduate of Osage High School and the University of Arizona. At one time, she was a singer with the Tracy Brown Band. She served with the marines, attaining the rank of captain. Following her service, she worked for Bell Aircraft in Dallas, Texas. She moved to Albuquerque following her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include two brothers, Maurice Kathan of Osage and Marshall Kathan of Albuquerque; a niece and two nephews.
