Funeral services were held Friday, September 5, 1986 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven for Gilbert Melbourn Theis, 89, of Charles City, Iowa, and formerly of New Haven, Iowa. Mr. Theis died on Monday, September 1, 1986 at the Charles City hospital. Rev. R. Rethamel of Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City officiated. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery with rites conducted by the Riceville American Legion Post.

Mr. Theis was born on November 28, 1896 in Mitchell County near New Haven, to John and Mary (Kirst) Theis. He married Gladys Womack on February 14, 1928 at new Haven. They farmed near New Haven until retiring to Osage in 1974. The couple moved to Charles City in May of 1985.

Mr. Theis was a veteran of World War I, and a member of the Riceville American Legion Post 244.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Charles City; three daughters: Mrs. Melvin (Mary) Jensen of Osage, Mrs. William (Veronica) Goodale of Manly, and Mrs. Karry (Margaret) Weber of Charles City; two sons, George of Plymouth and Norbert of New Hampton; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and three brothers: Francis of New Haven, Paul of Janesville and Harry of Harpers Ferry.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leonard and Carl Theis.
