Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 18, 1986 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, for Ione Helmers, 59, of Orchard, Iowa. Rev. J. Nesheim and Rev. Dennis _______ officiated, and burial was in the Stillwater Cemetery near Orchard. She died on Friday, November 14, 1985 at her home in Orchard.
Mrs. Helmers was born at Titonka, Iowa, to ____ and Marie Boyken Mayland. She graduated from Titonka High School, Waldorf College at Forest City and Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls. She taught four years in rural schools in _______ County and three years at ________.
She married Arnold Helmers in 1948 in Titonka. The couple lived in Titonka until 1954 when they moved to ______ near Buffalo Center. The moved to rural Orchard in 1972.
Mrs. Helmers was a dietery aide at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Osage and was also employed by Elderbridge Agency on the Aging at Mason City.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, Friendship Bible Study group and Cedarside Birthday Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold of rural Orchard; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Valerie) Johnson of Polk City and Carla Helmers of Mason City; three sons: Brenton of Aurora, Colorado, Myron of Bonaparte and John of Stewartville, Minnesota; ten grandchildren; five sisters: Mrs. Ubbe (Anna) Meyer and Mrs. Andrew (Marie) Risius, both of Titonka, Mrs. Frank (Wilhamine) risius of Buffalo Center, Mrs. Meindert (Louise) Dirksen and Mrs. Bernard (Irene) Schmidt, both of Woden; two brothers, Fred of Buffalo Center and Carl of Titonka.
