MICHAEL THOMPSON TO FINAL REWARD

PASSED AWAY LAST FRIDAY AT THE AGE OF EIGHT-TWO YEARS

(Written by a member of the family)

Michael Thompson was born in Norway, February 23rd, 1835. He was baptized in March, 1835, and confirmed in 1850. He parents names were Tosten and Kari Eljeraas.

He taught parochial school in Norway for some time. At the age of 21 years he came to America and settled in Scandinavia, Wisconsin. On the 18th day of November, 1861, he enlisted as a soldier of the Civil War. He served in the war until its close when he was mustered out.

In the year 1868 he settled on a farm five miles north of St. Ansgar where he continued to reside for a period of 37 years. On the 28th day of November 1871 he was married to Andrine Amundson. This union was blessed with six children; two sons and four daughters. Two daughters preceeded him to the heavenly home.

On the 30th day of September, 1905 he together with his wife and youngest daughter moved to St. Ansgar where he continued to reside for a period of twelve years. He enjoyed fairly good health, his age considered, until November 12th, 1917, when he was stricken with paralysis. He also suffered from cancer of the bladder. He bore his sufferings patiently and was grateful to all friends who ministered to his needs. Everything which medical and loving care could accomplish was done for his recovery but to no avail. He died quietly and peacefully on the 28th day of November, 1917, which was the forty-sixth anniversary of his wedding day. He leaves to mourn the loss of a kind, loving and righteous husband and father, his wife, two sons, and two daughters. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren, a brother, a sister, and a number of other relatives.
