THE OBITUARY OF NELS TORGERSON

BODY BROUGHT HERE FOR BURIAL FUNERAL HELD ON SUNDAY

Nels Torgerson was born in Aal parish, Hallingdal, Norway, May 3, 1835. He was baptized and confirmed in his home parish. He was next to the youngest of a family of five children and of these he was the only remaining member.

He migrated to this country in 1856 in early manhood, and located at Rochester, Olmstead County, Minn.

In 1865 he married Guro (Curol) Hanson Rust of St. Ansgar, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1880. To this union were born three children who are all living and were present at the time of his death.

In 1875, Mr. Torgerson moved to St. Ansgar township, Iowa, where he resided continuously for thirty five years.

In 1911 his daughter, Mrs. Belle Nelson, and family moved to Northfield, Minn. since which time he has made his home there and at Minneapolis, Minn, at which place he died on May 4 after a week of acute illness. The nature of the disease was pronounced cancer of the stomach with metastasis of the liver.

The disease had been slowly encroaching upon his health for several years, but he uncomplainingly bore it with great fortitude and patience.

He died the day following his birthday, being eighty-six years and one day old.

He leaves to mourn his loss a son, Theodore Torgerson of Minneapolis, two daughters, Lena Torgerson of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Belle Nelson of Northfield, Minn., and the latter's three children, of whom he was ever a kind, devoted and much beloved grandfather.

The funeral took place at St. Ansgar, Iowa, Sunday morning, May 8 and was conducted by Rev. M.E. Waldeland at the First Lutheran Church and Evergreen Cemetery, north of St. Ansgar.
