dies at 79
in hospitalMrs. H. C. (Ella) Sprung, 79 died suddenly Sunday evening in a Mason City hospital. She had lived in Mason City 20 years and made her home at 1152 East State.
Mrs. Sprung was born May 3, 1885, at Hubbard, the daughter of Ferdinand and Amelia (Pilger) Witthuhn. She was graduated from Hubbard High School and taught school until she was married to Harry C. Sprung, on February 16, 1905, at Callaway, Nebraska.
They farmed near Steamboat Rock until 1920 when they moved to Mitchell County, where they farmed until moving to Mason City December 1, 1944.
Surviving are her husband; three sons: Lawrence A. Sprung of California; Earl H. Sprung of Laurel, Iowa; and Alvin Sprung, Plymouth; two (daughters, Mrs. Charles J. (Arlene) Gerk and Mrs. Marvin G. (Marla) Willernsen, both of Mason City; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Witthuhn, Denver, Iowa, and Henry Witthuhn, Tabor, and a sister Mary McFarland, Arnold, Nebraska also survive.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth, in 1955, and by two grandchildren.
Mrs. Sprung was a member of the Methodist Church of Plymouth and the W. S. C. S. of the church. She was a past member of the Golden Wedding Club.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Hogan-McKee Colonial Funeral Home is in charge.
